Description

RNZYS Level 1 Weekend Sailing Course Sonar. This adult Learn to Sail course is a Yachting New Zealand [internationally recognised] Level 1 sailing course. The course format is a whole weekend. The Sonar is a small keelboat that is easy to move around in, it fits in between the Elliott 7 and the MRX, not as sporty as the Elliott 7 but not as big as the MRX. The course is a mixture of theory and practical sailing knowledge delivered by qualified YNZ instructors. Sonars are a very safe stable sailing boat, ideal for learning. They have been powered by an incredibly quiet discreet electric motor, which is used to manoeuvre the vessel in and out of the marina – it’s a very cool experience. There will be a maximum of 4 students on board with 1 coach.

Most of the theory for this course is delivered via the RNZYS Learning Portal. Learning the theory online at your own pace means that we can spend most of our time together on the water, linking that theory knowledge to practical sail experiences, which leads to exceptionally good learning outcomes.

As you can see we have added an alternate date in case one of the main dates gets called off due to weather. If you get both your dates in and there is enough interest from the course, we can consider running an experience builder which is half a day with a coach just to consolidate what you have learnt on the course.

1 month membership of the RNZYS is included – valid for a month after your final course date.

Lunch at the club is included 😊

10am to 5:30pm.

  • Day 1: 13th January
  • Day 2: 14th January
  • Alternate Day: 21st Janaury
